Thought you might be interested in a preview of an ad I will run in a few small hometown papers next week. I realize that posting it here will leave it open to criticism and comments from all who happen across it, however I think my skin is tough enough to take it. Let’s just say that sometimes the experts aren’t always the most effective….The plan is to run a variety of ads throughout the remains days that will be more informational and hard hitting at times, but wanted to start out personable and introductory. Go ahead…let me have it.

The Watertown Victory Office held an open house last night that was well attended. I stopped by around 4:30 and had the opportunity to visit with several candidates, volunteers, and interested citizens. In the photo above is Judy Trzynka (Codington County Chairwoman), myself, Art Fryslie (Senate candidate in District 6), and Mark Rovold, who is the new Victory office director.
Here is the Solum family, enjoying a good laugh.
And here is Mark….obviously begging his wife LaDonna for her assistance in the upcoming months. I had a nice visit with the young man to the right…(yes, I’ve forgotten his name..I think…umm, Clay?)…anyways, he is one of the new students at Lake Area Tech participating in the Fire Medic program that just started this fall. He had lots of excellent feedback on the program and was impressed with the level of medical training that was required for completion of the course. He lives near Aberdeen, but is enjoying the Watertown area as he receives his education. ….as for me….I’m seriously thinking about taking one of those courses on remembering people’s names…
It was a great time to gather with friends and celebrate the campaign season. It sounds like this weekend is when the big push is going to start for putting up signs and getting advertising going. If you’d like a Noem sign on your land or yard….just give me a call!

Here are the girls with their 4-H heifers. Kennedy’s is Daisy and Kassidy’s is named Abigail. This was their first year showing cattle and really enjoyed the experience. Kennedy received a purple ribbon in showmanship and Daisy received a blue and Abigail a red. Both calves and kids were well behaved in the show ring!

Kennedy enjoying her new puppy. Maggie is a Golden Retriever that will be Kennedy’s 4-H project and new best friend.

Here is Kennedy showing off her purple ribbon winning Special Foods place setting and smoothie. The contest consists of setting a proper place setting, planning a well balanced menu, preparing a snack or meal, being judged on its taste, and answering questions on nutritional content and information.
Thought I would share a few photos off and on all week of some of the activities we took part in at the Fair.

We just returned from the State Fair, which looks to have been a huge success. Coming into the final days all numbers were up and it was shoulder to shoulder traffic on Saturday. We headed out on Thursday night as the girls, Kassidy and Kennedy, were working the Bull Bash at the Grandstand. We also checked in our heifers that night and prepared for their special foods contest on Friday am. The girls participated in many 4-H events including the special foods, dog show, and cattle show. They did well and brought home many ribbons to the Noem household.
I attended the farm bill forum that was held in the Women’s Building Auditorium. The panel consisted of Senator John Thune, Senator Tim Johnson, Representative Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin, SD Sec. of Agriculture Bill Even, and Steve Cutler the FSA State Director. There was good discussion on energy policy and a broad perspective of the impact of the new farm bill. I was disappointed by the lack of “nuts and bolts” information during the meeting. It appeared to me that a large majority of the crowd were farmers who wanted basic information on the requirements and changes that affected their operations. There was very little of this type of detail covered. Overall, it was good to hear from our elected and appointed officials and the general review of energy policy and farm issues was appreciated.
I ran into a good number of legislators at the fair during the five days I was there. It was good to catch up and visit with them and see the activity in and around the Republican building. The Beadle County TAR’s always seemed to be “on the clock” and I was impressed with the amount of hours they put in.
All in all, it was a great time. Booker, age 6, rode every ride at the fair numerous times…even those that mom wouldn’t go near with a 10 foot pole. We’ve discovered he’s quite a little daredevil. Enjoy the slide show of a few photos we took over the weekend. We also added a new member to the family…Miss Maggie….a golden retriever puppy who belongs to Kennedy. She plans to start showing her in 4-H next year. You can’t come home from the fair without some kind of new animal, now can you?
