Governor Noem’s Pro-Life Record

Back to news

As we celebrated Easter this past Sunday, we’re reminded that life is precious and a gift. Recognizing the sanctity of life, and particularly that of the unborn, has played an essential role in Governor Noem’s time in public service. Governor Noem has a lifelong commitment to defending innocent life and an extensive record of accomplishments defending innocent unborn life. She has been a leader on the issue both nationally and in South Dakota. Her record of accomplishments and leadership on the issue has made South Dakota one of the nation's most pro-life states.

The Noem Record on Life

  • Introduced and championed the Heartbeat Bill (2022)
  • Signed into law a ban on telemedicine abortions (2022)
  • Signed the Born-Alive Act into law in South Dakota (2021)
  • Signed a ban on selective abortions on a diagnosis of Down syndrome into law (2021)
  • Signed a law giving every woman an option to view a sonogram and hear their child’s heartbeat before getting an abortion (2019)
  • Instituted a criminal penalty for forcing a woman to receive an abortion against her will (2019)
  • First governor in the nation to designate an official in her office to serve as an advocate for unborn children

Joe Desilets stated the following about Governor Noem’s record of pro-life leadership on behalf of the Kristi for Governor campaign:

“Governor Noem is the most pro-life governor in the nation, and for a good reason. Governor Noem does not just say the right things about the pro-life issue. She leads from the front championing and signing great pro-life legislation every year. She will continue to champion the right to life and serve as a voice for the innocent unborn children who cannot speak for themselves.”
